The textbook for this course, Cambridge Latin Course, is by far the most popular in the UK and is used by over 90% of schools teaching Latin. Students will be expected to purchase a copy of Book II either directly themselves or via the course tutor. If ordering yourself, make sure you select the UK Fourth edition, as the North American edition has some differences. There are two public holidays during the summer term and a breakoff almost two months in July-August, and you are therefore recommended to take time to go over material again during the gaps between lessons.
Session 1 21/5 Reading Quīntus advenit, tripodes argenteī in Stage 14. Quiz on the stage 14 vocab. Agreement of adjectives with nound. Powerpoint LATIN 15 and brief review of history of Roman Britain including King Cogidubnus (pages 36-41 and 55-57). Homework: Prepare passages ad aulam and caerimōnia
Session 2 28/5 Reading ad aulam and caerimōnia. Relative pronoun (quī, quae, quod, quem, quam, cuius, cui) with examples on page 50 and in LATIN 15. Homework: Prepare passage lūdī fūnebrēs and prepare for vocab quiz on stage 15.
Session 3 4/6 Vocab quiz on stage 15. Read passage lūdī fūnebrēs Revise present tenses of possum, volō, nōlō and introduce imperfect. Revise relative pronoun forms. Homework: Prepare Powerpoint LATIN 16 and passage Belimicus ultor.
Session 4 11/6 Look at Powerpoint LATIN 16 and read passage Belimicus ultor. Further forms of relative pronoun (quōs, quās, quōrum, quibus) Homework: Prepare rēx spectāculum dat I and II
Session 5 25/6 Read rēx spectāculum dat I and II. Pluperfect tense (-eram, -erās, -erat, -erāmus, -erātis, -erant) and revision of other tenses. Homwork: Prepare Quīntus dē sē and for vocabulary quiz on stage 16. Read notes on Fishbourne palace (pages 68-73).
Session 6 9/7 Read Quīntus dē sē. Vocabulary quiz on stage 16 and brief discussion of Fishbourne. Introduction to Alexandria and Roman Egypt with Powerpoint LATIN 17. Homework: Look at LATIN 17 and notes on Alexandria (pages 84-91), prepare passage tumultus I.
Session 7 3/9 Complete looking at LATIN 17 and read tumultus I. Pairwork reading and translation of tumultus II Introduction of genitive case. Homework: Prepare passage ad templum and for vocabulary quiz on stage 17.
Session 8 10/9 Read ad templum and do vocabulary quiz on stage 17. Complete `Practising the Language’ (pg. 83). Revision of noun cases of declensions 1-3. Homework: Look at Powerpoint LATIN 18 and prepare taberna.
Session 9 24/9 Powerpoint LATIN 18 and reading taberna. Pair reading and translation of in officīnā Eutychī. Vocabulary revision. Homework: Prepare Clēmēns tabernārius and read `About the language: gender’ ([ages 100-101]
Session 10: 8/10 Reading Clēmēns tabernārius and discussion of gender and case in adjectives. Pair reading of prō tabernā Clēmentis. Introduction ot `Cult of Isis’ and `Egyptian cats’ Powerpoints. Homework (for those continuing to Latin V): complete `Practising the language’ (pg.104).
