AENEID IV

The first file below is the macroned text of Aeneid IV with colour coding of non-adjective phrases added for 1-54 and similar coding, plus interlinear glossing, notes and illustrations for 129-231. The second file explains the structure of hexameter verse, including the disputed relationship between natural word stress and verse ictus (beat) and the third summarises rhe rules for determining the natural stress itself. Fuller notes and vocabulary help for Aeneid IV are available on the Dickinson College site.  Another free resource is Ingo Gildenhard's mammoth edition, with study questions, vocabulary and detailed commentary. This can be read on-line or freely downloaded from the Open Book Publishers site, where a companion volume, Teaching Dido: Critical Perspectives on Aneid 4, is also available, as well as separate files for the macroned text and vocabulary.
