The textbook for this course, Cambridge Latin Course, is by far the most popular in the UK and is used by over 90% of schools teaching Latin. Students will be expected to purchase a copy of Book 1 either directly themselves or via the course tutor. If ordering yourself, make sure you select the UK Fourth edition, as the North American edition has some differences. Session 2 4/10 Reading Lūcius Spūrius Pompōniānus Verbs with the dative case and review of questions. Elections and election slogans. Homework: Prepare for vocabulary test on stage 11. Look at introductory pictures for Stage 12.
Session 3 11/10 Vocabulary test for Stage 11. .See introductory pictures for stage 12. Read tremōrēs and answer comprehension questions. Homework: Prepare passages ad urbem and ad vīllam,
Session 4 18/10 Read ad urbem and ad vīllam. Imperfect and perfect in 1st (`I’, `we’) and 2nd. persons (`you’): -bam, bās, -bāmus, -bātis, ī, īstī, -imus, -istis), Homework: Prepare fīnis read through Language Information (pages 180 to 188) and note anything not understood.
Session 5 25/10 Read fīnis. Review of Language Information Practising the Language Powerpoint on Pompeii, Herculaneum and Stabiae. Homwork: Prepare for vocabulary test on all checklists for Book 1. Look at Britannia Romāna Powerpoint.
Session 6 1/11 Test on Vocabulary for Book 1. Go through Britannia Rōmāna Powerpoint and introductory pictures for Book II, stage 13. Homework: Prepare trēs servī and coniūrātiō.
Session 7 8/11 Reading passages trēs servī and coniūrātiō. Irregular verbs possum, vōlō and nōlō with infinitives. Homework: Prepare passages Brēgāns and Servius fundum īnspicit. Read pages 16-21
Session 8 15/11 Read Brēgāns and Servius fundum īnspicit Complete `Practising the Language’ (pp.14-15). Discuss farming in Roman Britain Homework: Prepare for test on stage 13 vocabulary. Look through LATIN 14 Powerpoint. translate in palaestrā, prepare for vocabulary test on Stage 9.
