This article, originally published in 1983 (South Asia Research, vol.3, no. 2, pp.78-84), gives a brief description of primary sources on Nepalese history available then in Kathmandu. It needs updating, and also the addition of material in the British Indian records held at the National Archives of India in New Delhi and in London at the British Library, the National Archives (formerly known as the Public Records Office) and elsewhere. There should also be a reference to the microfilms of some of the National Archives of India material held on microfilm at Tribhuvan University's Centre for Nepal and Asian Studies. I hope to publish a revised version of the article in a future issue of Studies in Nepali History and Society.
