The textbook for this course, Cambridge Latin Course, is by far the most popular in the UK and is used by over 90% of schools teaching Latin. Students will already have a copy of Book III which we began using in Part V of the course You will be supplied with Powerpoints illustrating each of the Cambridge stages covered in Part VII. Session 2 20/5 Powerpoint THE LEGIONARY SOLDIER and explanation of inscriptions with Agricola’s name. Go through LATIN 26, introducing purpose clauses. Start translation in pairs of adventus Agricolae. Homework: Write out translation of adventus Agricolae, Prepare in prīncipiīs
Session 3 27/5 Collect in adventus Agricolae translations, Comprehension questions on in prīncipiīs Exercise on purpose clauses (p.96). Start pair work translation of tribūnus, Homework: Write out translation of tribūnus
Session 4 3/6 Return translations of adventus Agricolae and view model answer. Collect in translations of tribūnus. Introduction of gerund (p.96). Class reading of contentiō, Word patterns (verbs and nouns) and start `Practising the language’ (pp. 98-99). Homework: Read notes on senior officers and Agricola. Prepare for quiz on Stage 26 vocabulary.
